His archive was the boot of a yellow Suzuki Esteem with a mismatched door. His diary was his memory. His accounting was a pile of 700 dollar public defender cheques he had to argue about. And the case that changed his life, Sandpiper, began as a bin bag of shredded documents he and his brother taped back together strip by strip, by lantern light, on a kitchen table logo. Here is the uncomfortable part: Jimmy was good. He found the case nobody else found, he built it, he proved it. What he did not have was structure. No reliable way to compute a deadline, no record of the hours he burned, no single place where a matter lived from the first phone call to the final invoice. Every solo practice knows that feeling.
