About Marktwain

Markdown is great, but markdown editors are generally bad for writing a novel — they either have too many or too few features. Marktwain is a simple markdown editor that uses YAML frontmatter to store notes, summaries, to dos, etc. You can then export your full manuscript or working outline into a fresh markdown file to do whatever you want with. Most functions are handled on the keyboard — CMD+B for bold, CMD+E to export, CMD+N for a new scene/chapter, etc. It’s pretty intuitive. There are four themes: Light, Dark, Sepia and Matrix. You can set your font and font size for the editor. You can make note files that are excluded from the export and put whatever you want in them. Best of all, everything is stored in markdown files inside a project folder. Use other markdown apps, store it all in a syncing folder for mobile access, whatever. It’s just text!
